Due to the Covid lockdown I have had to limit my search of artist inspiration to online creators, and these are the artists I found my inspiration from:
Patrick Gleason:
He has done a great deal of work on the marvel and dc comics and since I was drawn to fanart I was inspired by the rough lines and the single coloured background, this was where I toyed with the idea of adding coloured backgrounds in my work so show emotions but I was really drawn to the bold black background as it created a sense openness about the image that has been drawn.
Kay Lee:
What I love about Kay Lees work is the contrasting black and white images, the white sharply standing out against the bold black canvas, I was inspired to create a similar feeling with my work, I also liked the idea that the image she drew of the cat is complete where as the cat itself is not.
Margaret Ambridge
Margaret's work has had a big impact on my own work and how I wish to move forward, her work tackles the subject of death, something I have struggled to portray without the use of a grim reaper, she has worked respectfully in capturing precious moments at the end of her subjects lives and although she has struggled with the loss of her patients she has wanted to capture the images of what remains once they pass such as in the image below of a pillow which holds the still form of the person whose head once rested upon it. Her work is drawn in charcoal
Margaret Hall:
The inspiration I drew from Margaret's work was that her pieces are quite simple in their whole form, the unblended colours, the lack of detail in the piece but the story she is telling is undeniably hard to mistake, one of longing, sadness and grief. This made me question my constant need to overwork my art and how I could show my audience what I felt without having to spend months picking apart my own work.
Andrew Davidson:
Although not an artist I do Love the works of this author, I am always inspired when I read this book as it's a story of 2 people who have been in each others lives throughout various past lives, they are always drawn to each other and she always finds him no matter where he is, its the story of 2 souls becoming one. Each time they are separated from each other heartache ensues until the realisation that they will one day meet again.
It helps me to envision images of how each character feels and how the author has created the narrative for the story, I find this useful to use as inspiration for telling my own story.
