I decided that from the initial plan of work, where I wanted to create A body of work based around astrology and the star signs in male form, that because I am doing paintings of the same theme, I changed the direction I plan on going in this module.
I have opted to work on areas I feel I will enjoy more, due to the restrictions and lockdowns happening around the world today I feel I have severely lost interest in the work I have begun.
The art form I am working on right now is more simple, in terms of materials being used, I love the textures and depths you can create using craphite pencils and I absoloutely love drawing people I am able to imagine. (If they look like someone it's purely coincidental)
I have started with a basic outline of where I believe the facial features would sit, I have aimed for the male face as I find these harder to draw, as you can see right now this looks like yet another female portrait.
Excuse the quality of the photo, I don't have the best equiptment right now, but as you can see I have started to add more texture and shading in areas where I believe are needed to enhance the facial structure. I still feel it's a little feminine but it's easrly days.
I have added more contrast to the drawing by using softer graphite and blending a little less to it covers only the areas I need, I like the process, especially with working on a larger scale piece of work, I'm finding it easier to achieve the detail I have been aiming for in smaller pieces.
The best photo I can get of the finished piece right now. I will be taking this piece into the studio after lockdown to photograph properly, I am super happy with this piece, I feel it fits the art style I enjoy and most of all this piece just flowed really well for me, in terms of shading, timing, and enjoyment. It's been so long since I have enjoyed creating art, and if this is what I can achieve now in my first attempt, then I have high hopes my work will continue to grow and develop.
I like the placement of the facial features and the highlights, which I have never really been focused on using so much in my work, but I feel these little bits just help the work feel more dynamic.
