Taurus Graphite Layer

I knew I wanted to do something different so I decided quite early on that even though I was going to work on primed canvas, I still wanted to incorporate the use of graphite pencils, it's a medium I absolutely adore, I did however realise I didn't want to use alot of it, so I started by adding the graphite to the face.

I loved it so much but then it occured to me that if I did the hands in a different medium I might not like it so much and it would be too late to change it later on, so I decided to add graphite to all the areas of skin on show and if I don't like it then I can change it with ease.

This is the finished first layer of the graphite pencil, I used only 1 shade (2B) and a range of tortillions to blend and move the graphite around the canvas.

I must admit I do like the harsh textures the graphite on canvas has made, I was originally going to use water or an alcohol based fluid and brush to soften the graphite but now...I'm not so sure, so what I will do is to prep a smaller canvas and use that as a practice run.
